Inspiring the Next Generation of Technologists

Recently, thousands of Comcast engineers and technologists gathered for the annual SCTE Cable-Tec Expo in our hometown of Philadelphia to learn about the latest in tech innovations and to participate in trainings and volunteer STEM experiences.

During the Expo, Comcast’s Technology, Product and Experience (TPX) Talent Management team hosted over 50 students from our digital equity partners CodePath and Per Scholas, along with ZipCode Wilmington and Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, to hear directly from Comcast technologists and learn more about technology careers at Comcast.

“We were honored to host such a diverse group of talented students for a ‘meetup’ during SCTE Expo Week,” said Don Clark, Vice President of Talent Acquisition for TPX at Comcast Cable. “It was a fantastic way for us to provide these students with insights into the innovative products and services we deliver to our customers every day and, more importantly, to learn what it’s like to have a career in technology at Comcast.”

The meetup, which was held at Comcast’s Technology Center, featured insights from Sherita Ceasar, Senior Vice President of Technology Environments & Strategy for Comcast Cable, followed by a panel of Comcast technologists sharing their personal journeys and career advice.

“The event was a unique opportunity for diverse emerging technologists to get a glimpse of what Comcast can offer,” reflected Sherita.

The experience itself is a pathway for this next generation to begin building relationships with our engineering talent and see the possibility of becoming a Comcast employee as they start their respective careers.

After the panel, students attended a networking reception with Comcast employees to learn about various tech career pathways and had the opportunity to apply for internships and entry-level roles with the company.

CodePath student Angelina Batista expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to connect with Comcast employees at the event. “I got to speak with product managers and UX/UI user experience designers who offered incredible insights and even some recommendations on books to read,” she said. “This event has motivated me to further grow my skill set and even look for a future at Comcast.”

Echoing the sentiment, Per Scholas student Devin Blair remarked, “being at Comcast was a life-changing experience. Networking and talking to different people about technology – you don’t get these types of experiences where I’m from and where I’ve been, and I have Per Scholas and Comcast to thank for that.”
